Helsinki chamber choir celebrates it's 20th anniversary in 2025

20 years of singing together as an independent professional choir!

There have been significant steps along the way: the reform of the laws regarding state funding for the arts to make choirs eligible, and subsequently becoming a recipient of state support; a series of award-winning recordings culminating in a GRAMMY in 2024; and increased international networking partly thanks to the choir’s membership of TENSO, the European network of professional chamber choirs. Our deep gratitude goes to all the public and private bodies that have supported us along the various stages of our development.

2025 sees an exciting range of projects  marking the choir’s anniversary. Collaboration is at the centre of the Helsinki Chamber Choir’s activities, and we are delighted that the Finnish Baroque Orchestra has agreed to join us for our anniversary concert in April, which features five contemporary works alongside music from the Baroque. We also look forward to collaborating with the Freiburg-based ensemble recherche for the first time, as well as continuing our long-standing associations with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.

At a time of cuts to both culture and music education, we feel an increased responsibility towards the younger generation and to this end we are excited to present our first edition of the Choral Postcards workshop for school-age composers.

New music has been at the centre of the Helsinki Chamber Choir’s activities since the beginning and we look forward to presenting world premiere performances of five newly commissioned works by Santa Ratniece, Karin Rehnqvist, Matilda Seppälä, Helena Tulve and Vito Žuraj during the spring season, with more to come in the autumn.

Please join us in celebrating our 20th anniversary year!
