20th anniversary celebrations continue - Helsinki chamber choir's Autumn 2025 programme published!
We launched the Helsinki Chamber Choir’s 20th anniversary celebrations in spring 2025 with six concerts at the Helsinki Music Centre and tours to the Netherlands and Germany. The festivities continue this summer and autumn with a wide range of programmes showcasing the multifaceted talents of our group.
Two major projects will focus on mankind’s attitudes to our natural environment. We are hugely excited to collaborate with the world-renowned Bang on a Can All-Stars when we give the European premiere of master composer David Lang’s before and after nature at the Helsinki Festival in August. In November we will explore another approach to a similar theme when we take the world premiere of Matthew Whittall’s major new work The World Tree on tour around southern Finland.
Two joint tours with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra will take us to cities all around Finland, performing Italian madrigals and French, Portuguese and Italian sacred music. We’re particularly excited to focus on works by the recently rediscovered Isabella Leonarda and Antonia Bembo.
There is more new music when the chorus director of the Berlin State Opera, Dani Juris, returns to Finland to conduct the choir in three world premieres by Finnish composers of different generations. The Romantic era is represented by a programme of works for male chorus by Fredrik Pacius, continuing a multi-year project in which the choir will perform and record his entire a cappella output. And in August we will visit Germany for a concert at the Festival of European Church Music in Schwäbisch Gmünd featuring music from four centuries.
Our warm thanks go to all the public and private bodies that are supporting our activities this season. We look forward to seeing you at our concerts!
