On its frst North American tour, the Helsinki Chamber Choir will give the world premiere of a major new work by the young Latvian-American composer Eugene Birman (1987) to a libretto by Scott Diel. State of the Union takes a provocative and uncompromising look at some of the urgent issues facing the world today, in the year of one of the most unusual US presidential elections in history. During the tour, the Helsinki Chamber Choir will also perform favourite classics from Finland and lead workshops at Northern Michigan University.
